Jean-Philippe Mateta Scores Twice in Hosts' 3-1 Victory
Hosts France rallied from a first-half deficit to defeat Egypt 3-1 in extra time in the men's football semifinals at the Paris Olympics. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice for the French, who will face Spain in Friday's final at Parc des Princes.
Egypt took the lead in the 24th minute through Ahmed Hegazi, but France equalized just before halftime on a goal by Gerson Martinez.
The match remained tied until the 105th minute, when Mateta put France ahead for good. Michael Olise added an insurance goal in the 115th minute to seal the victory.
France will be seeking its first Olympic gold medal in men's football since 1984. Spain, meanwhile, will be looking to win its second gold medal in a row after triumphing in 2012.
