Braskem and WEAV3D Clemson Composites Center Win the Altair Enlighten 2024 Future of Lightweighting Award

BRASILIA, Brazil, Feb. 27, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WEAV3D, a leader in generative design software for the automotive industry, and Braskem, the largest polyolefins producer in the Americas and leading producer of biopolymers, announced that they have won the prestigious Altair Enlighten Award for the development of a cost-effective, lightweight tire solution.

This award recognizes the latest innovation in lightweighting, with a focus on design and engineering excellence. WEAV3D and Braskem's joint effort has resulted in the creation of a tire that is both lightweight and cost-effective, while also improving performance and extending tire lifespan. By 2050, Bridgestone, one of the world's leading tire manufacturers, aims to have all of its tires be fully sustainable and WEAV3D and Braskem's innovative solution is a key step towards achieving this goal.

WEAV3D's generative design software was used to create a unique tread pattern that optimizes tire performance and reduces weight. Braskem's advanced materials, including its Green PE, provided the necessary strength and durability to meet the demanding requirements of the tire industry. The combination of these two innovative technologies resulted in a tire that is up to 15% lighter than traditional tires, while also offering improved traction, handling, and durability.

"We are honored to receive this award from Altair," said Joel Carr, Technical Service and Development Engineering Team Leader at Braskem America. "This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and it demonstrates our commitment to developing innovative solutions for the automotive industry."
