For the first time in MotoGP history, sprint races will feature on the grand prix bill in 2023 at every round on the calendar. The sprint races will be held on Saturdays, with the top 10 finishers earning points towards the championship standings.
Marquez wins inaugural Tissot Sprint
Marc Marquez won the inaugural Tissot Sprint at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez. The Spaniard held off Pedro Acosta and Fabio Quartararo to take the victory. The Tissot Sprint was a new format for MotoGP, with the race being held over 10 laps instead of the usual 20 laps. The sprint races are designed to add excitement to the MotoGP weekend and give riders a chance to earn extra points.
