Angels Star Center Fielder Continues Recovery From Hamate Bone Fracture

Latest Progress Has Trout Confident Return Is Near

Angels’ Star Center Fielder Continues Recovery from Hamate Bone Fracture

ARLINGTON -- Star Angels center fielder Mike Trout doesn't have an exact return date set but he feels optimistic about being back on the field soon.

Trout left a game against Houston on July 12 with back spasms and was put on the injury list a week later with rib cage inflammation before the underlying condition was diagnosed.

Progressing Well

ANAHEIM -- Angels superstar Mike Trout is continuing to make progress after having surgery to remove his fractured left hamate bone on July 5. He recently had his stitches removed.

Trout fractured the hamate bone in his left hand during Monday's game against the San Diego Padres. He's been out of the lineup since then.

"I'm feeling good," Trout said. "I'm just trying to get my strength back and get back out there."

Trout said he's been doing a lot of rehab work and is starting to feel stronger. He's hoping to be able to start swinging a bat again soon.

"I'm just taking it day by day," Trout said. "I'm not going to put a timeline on it. But I'm feeling good and I'm hoping to be back soon."

The Angels have been struggling without Trout in the lineup. They are 12-22 since he went on the injured list.

"We need him back," Angels manager Joe Maddon said. "He's our best player and we're a better team with him in the lineup."
